Eligibility Criteria
Exam category 2 years Post MS/DNB and has become an IAGES life member or member of Nepal Surgical Society or other IAGES collaborating associations and assisted or performed about 25 LAP groin and or abdominal wall hernia
Non-exam category 10 years post-MS/DNB and has done more than 100 Lap hernia repairs
Last date for registration 25.01.25 5pm
Day 1 /Online platform 26.01.25 from 9.00 am to 5 pm with 15 lecture modules and panel discussion
Day 2 to Day 4 of the fellowship course Conference venue in Kathmandu, Nepal along with IAGES South Asia Summit along with MCQ paper and Viva assessment
Convocation for FIAGES 2nd Feb 2025 10am onwards

Six Steps to success in obtaining IAGES Fellowship Certification:

  • Become an IAGES Life member and apply or as Member of collaborating associations (including Surgical society of Nepal)
  • Apply for the Course, conference, and convocation combo
  • Join for the full day Online session on Sunday, 26th Jan 2025 9am to 6pm for day 1 lecture modules
  • Plan to reach before 2pm on 31st Jan 2025 to conference venue in Kathmandu for 3 days of rest of the course and conference and convocation including the MCQ written and Viva part of the assessment
  • Mandatory attendance of the academic sessions in the halls as indicated for the respective fellowship course
  • On satisfactory completion of all the modules and successful assessment marks, you will be invited to receive the fellowship certificate during the grand colourful convocation ceremony on 2nd Feb 2025 10am onwards

FIAGES-FELLOWSHIP CATEGORY

Eligibility criteria:

  • IAGES MEMBERSHIP IS MUST. ( or member of Nepal Surgical Society or any collaborating association of IAGES)

    Those who are not members may apply for membership online. See the website www.iages.in for more details. Post graduate degree in surgery is mandatory.
    The number of years of experience in laparoscopic surgery should be a minimum of 2 years (including experience in laparoscopy as a postgraduate surgical resident). A resident or junior consultant should obtain a certificate of experience from the HOD of the hospital/Institution as a supportive document. Attach soft copies of the MBBS, MS, or DNB certificate and MCI registration certificate during membership registration.

  • Members of collaborating associations who have signed an MOU with IAGES are also eligible. (Bangladesh, Malaysia, Nepal, Pakistan, Maldives and UK) . They are expected to get their application endorsed by the respective collaborating association before joining the course. They need not become IAGES life member.

(A)FIAGES FELLOWSHIP, NON-EXAMINATION CATEGORY:

  • Suitable for only those candidates working as faculty in teaching institutions and all surgeons with more than 10-year experience in doing a laparoscopy.
  • Already an IAGES member or should become an IAGES member
  • Number of laparoscopies done in the last 10 years: >100
  • would be eligible to receive the FIAGES fellowship upon completing the FIAGES course and the informal interview during IAGES South Asia Summit

(B) FIAGES FELLOWSHIIP, EXAMINATION CATEGORY

  • Suitable for those with a minimum of 2 years’ experience in laparoscopic surgery (Includes experience in laparoscopy as a postgraduate surgical resident).
  • Fellow should have experience certificate from HOD, Employer or self if running own hospital.
  • Fellow should present a Log book either as soft or hardcopy mentioning MAS cases performed/assisted. Minimum 25 cases including all Assisted/ Operated laparoscopic surgeries is book as eligibility to appear as Examination category

Assessment of Fellowship Candidates

1. MCQ assessment (100 questions/100 marks/ one hour):

  • For Exam category only.
  • Kindly ensure your participation in this MCQ test which will be held in digital format. The exact time and date will be notified later

2. The viva /Practical part of the assessment

  • For Non-Exam Category
    • Informal interview
    • For surgeons with more than 10 years of experience and a logbook with 250 100 MAS cases
  • For Exam Category
    • In 2 parts
    • Lap suturing assessment
      • 1. It will be held on 31st Jan at conference venue 2pm to 6pm. Candidates have to demonstrate the technical skill of laparoscopic suturing skills and hand and eye coordination in MAS
      • 2. Maximum of 50 marks
    • Viva
      • It will be held on 31.01.25 afternoon for 10 minutes per candidate on essential laparoscopic surgery topics to assess cognitive and technical skills.
      • Maximum of 50 marks

All Successful candidates will be invited after completing all 3 days for the IAGES Convocation ceremony to be held on 2nd Feb 2025 provided she/he is already a life member of IAGES.

Frequently Asked Questions

1. What is unique about the Course, conference, and convocation combo?

This would be a unique opportunity for the delegates. Unlike before, registered delegates have to travel to the fellowship course destination(Kathmandu) only once wherein they will be able to complete their course and return home with a convocation certificate in 3 days of the academic feast at the IAGES SOUTH ASIA SUMMIT IN NEPAL

2. Will this hybrid fellowship course model be the same as the conventional 3-day structured IAGES Fellowship courses?

Essentially yes. The structure and intensity of the course would be as it used to be in the conventional onsite model. Here in a hybrid model, many lectures will be covered on the 26TH JAN 2025 as online webinars. Then, a hands-on simulation and live session will be held at the KATHMANDU Conference venue from 31st Jan. to 2nd Feb. 2025. Attendance to all 3 days of the Conference is mandatory. Finally, you will attend the convocation on 2nd FEB 2025 after the successful completion of the MCQ and Viva assessment

3. How much time and money could we save on this combo offer?

4. When and how will I receive the fellowship certificates?

IAGES fellowship convocation is planned for 2ND FEB 2025 and you could also receive all your fellowship certificates from previous courses in addition to the Current Combo course certificate.

5. Is it possible to attend with spot registration?

No. you need to register early as we have limited the seats to 100 in FIAGES and 75 in FALS Hernia . The last date for registration is 25.01.26. Please hurry and book your spot!

6. Is it possible to simultaneously take FIAGES with FALS HERNIA?

No. It is not possible. You can select any one of the 2 fellowship courses only as a One-stop Fellowship course
